New Google Chromebooks have Canadian connection, now available here

Samsung_Google_ChromebookGoogle announced that its Chromebooks are now finally available in Canada – and there’s a Canadian connection to the device’s development.

Chromebooks are relatively affordable laptops that run the Chrome operating system – a beefed up environment of Google’s popular web browser.

When you think about it, almost everything you do on a computer these days is...on the web. From checking your email to stalking friends on Facebook, a web browser seems like the perfect portal.

So the Chromebook is essentially a laptop that connects to the Internet and lets you surf the web. That doesn’t sound impressive, but then consider the price tag.

What do you want to see at CES?

Well, it's that time of year again. CES is upon us, and down in Vegas, the great and the good of the consumer electronics biz are showcasing this year's product. However, this is a bittersweet year for CES, because it loses one of its biggest supporters: Microsoft. The software giant has announced that this will be the last year it attends CES as a keynote speaker.

Acer Aspire S bridges gap between tablets and laptops

 

AspireS3_01One of the greatest things about tablets like the Apple iPad is just how fast they come to life. Press the power button and boom - you can instantly tap an app to life, spontaneously Google a local restaurant or browse your email.

The same can’t be said for laptops - until now. Before, you’d have to wait for the computer to come out of sleep mode, which could take anywhere from 45 seconds to a couple of minutes.

But a new wave of laptops - known as Ultrabooks - are stepping up their game.

One of the fist is the Acer Aspire S Ultrabook.
