Facebook launches crucial social search engine, blows the name

Facebook_graph_searchThe world's largest social network is launching a powerful new tool to search and discover things your friends are posting (and talking) about, but they got one thing wrong already.

Facebook Graph Search was announced today by CEO Mark Zuckerberg.

It lets you sift through all the stuff your friends have posted to find what you're looking for.

So if you want to find a good sushi restaurant, for example, search for “sushi restaurants my friends like” and you'll see a list of their posts, photos and page 'Likes' about sushi.

You may also search out things that others may have posted about (if their privacy settings aren't set to a high level).

Facebook Graph Search is all about finding things your friends have posted about – and what they recommend.

This is taking the power of word-of-mouth to the next level.

Want to block Justin Bieber? There's an app for that

Maybe it's because I'm not a tween or a teenage girl, but I'd rather go weed my lawn in scorching heat than hear about Justin Bieber. The only pleasure he's brought me was when I watched a video of him walking into a glass door in Germany – that was a great laugh.

As I constantly surf the web, I come across countless stories that somehow involve the Canadian sensation. Thankfully, there's a program to block him out of the online experience. It's called Shaved Bieber.

How a virtual assistant could change your life

How often have you wished that you had people? I've always wanted people, so that I could get my people to talk to other people's people, and make important things happen. Like film deals, and book contracts. I bet Brad Pitt has people. And I bet Stephen King has people. That's why they're successful A-list celebrities, while I still have problems getting served at the local dive bar and never even have enough time to manage my woefully overdrawn bank account. It's just not fair, I tell you. Now, though, we might all be able to have people - or at least, a virtual equivalent thereof.
