Toshiba brings the kitchen sink to the ultra-portable game
Toshiba describes its Portege R800 series of laptops as "ultra-portable" business machines and while we're not looking to quibble, the title invites comparison with some tough competition.
The 13.3-inch Portege R830 we tested is about an inch thick, not bad, but not nearly as thin as Apple's impossibly svelte MacBook Air, or Samsung's Series 9, each of which is nearly 50 per cent less bulky than the Toshiba. Amazingly though, the Toshiba weighs only a little more than those machines and offers one major feature they do not; an optical disk drive. So while the R830 may not slide into that iconic manila envelope, it will let you watch DVDs, make copies of your CDs and install software from disks.
So if you've been considering a MacBook Air or Samsung Series 9, but aren't sure you can do without some of their missing features, read through to see if Toshiba's slightly thicker range-topper may better meet your needs.

CES: Tablets, PCs or e-Readers? How about all of them!
Apple, which sold over seven million iPads through September of last year, is expected to sell 28 million of the coveted devices in 2011, up from an estimated 22 million.
The technology darling created a market that wasn’t there a year ago, which put their competitors in a position of playing catch-up. But if there’s a takeaway from this year’s Consumer Electronics Show, it’s this: the tablet market will heat up significantly in 2011.

Adobe's Flash reduces battery life 33%, says review
Things keep getting worse for Adobe's Flash. Apple - which is now officially the third largest vendor of personal computers in the US - shipped its new MacBook Airs without Flash installed. That isn't the story, though - the story is what happens to the battery life when someone puts Flash on one of those beasties.

Usually a priest or minister will ask you to turn off your BlackBerry or iPhone during a service. But in Nova Scotia, Rev. Lisa Vaughan will be asking people to turn them on – and bring them to the front for an unusual blessing.
