Why are people changing their Facebook profile pictures to equal signs?
I know many change their names in an effort to remain anonymous and private on the social network - but why a red block with two white horizontal lines?
This trend is part of a growing movement for equality.
As the issue of gay marriage goes before the Supreme Court in America, everyone from George Takei to Martha Stewart is getting behind the campaign to raise support and awareness.
The HRC's logo is actually yellow and blue, but it made the logo available in red this Monday to symbolize love. And this specific campaign has really taken off.
The group's Facebook page has about 1.4-million LIkes at the time of writing this post.
While everyone seems to be changing their Facebook profile picture, not many are explaining what it's about - leaving some people scratching their heads.
While the campaign is going viral, some are wondering if the complexity behind the issue is getting lost in the popularity.
"There's a lot of serious conversation going on and there's an awful lot of important concepts that the Supreme Court justices are discussing," HRC spokesperson Fred Sainz told the Associated Press.
"What this logo going viral means is individuals have reduced it to a very straightforward concept."
