HTC unveils its latest Windows phones – 8X and 8S

HTC-WP-8X-3V-multicolorAhead of the busy holiday season, smartphone maker HTC made a huge and unexpected announcement in New York City on Wednesday for its release of Windows Phone 8X and 8S.

While most media folks in attendance were expecting an announcement on a new HTC Android phone, the surprise came when Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer joined HTC CEO Peter Chou on stage in a Chelsea sound stage to introduce the newest members of the Windows Phone 8.

Billed as the official line for Windows Phone 8, the HTC 8X and 8S are very thin and super light when compared to some of the earlier versions of Windows Phone. On top of the wider high-definition display, the Taiwanese cellphone giant also promised that the two new phones will be equipped with a much-improved front-facing camera and sound quality. It is the first time that Beats Audio, a speaker and headphones company heavily invested in by HTC, will be available for a Windows phone.

The initial colour selection for the 8X will be in blue, black, red and yellow, while the smaller 8S will be available in 4 other solid or mixed colour palettes. Although no set price or release date has been announced, the two new HTC phones will be available in more than 50 countries, including Canada, in November. Bell and Rogers will be the Canadian carriers for the phones.
