Twitter saves carjacking victim
A quick-thinking girlfriend and the power of Twitter are being credit with saving a man who was stuffed in the trunk of his vehicle during a car-jacking over the weekend.
So he sent a text to his girlfriend, who then posted the following message on Twitter.
“Be on the look for DSS041GP my boyufriend has just been hijacked and is in the boot please RT.”
The Twitteratti came to the rescue, re-tweeting her plea for help – including one user with more than 100,000 followers, many in South Africa.
Once @PigSpotter’s immense following picked up, it was a matter of time before help was on the way.
It appears private security firms are the way to go in South Africa – and many chimed in to offer help on Twitter.
One company – K9 Law Enforcement – used co-ordinates from his cellphone to try and track down the man and his car. They had a hand from Riga Rescue, as the teams tweeted their progress to the man’s girlfriend and the fans following along online.
Ultimately, the thieves hit a roadblock and ditched the hot car. The guy in the trunk? He escaped unhamred - just a little shaken.
Has Twitter ever saved you?
