Popular app rates a person's ugly factor, bullying experts concerned

Ugly_meter_appAn iPhone app that rates the ugliness of a face is catapulting up the charts following a radio mention – even though bullying experts are sounding the alarm.

Ugly Meter works by taking a picture of your face, and then scanning it for certain facial features. A green bar glides across the face, drawing polymetric shapes surrounding a person’s facial structure.

The app then produces a score out of ten on the “Ugly Meter.” And with this app, you’ll want to score like you do with golf: the lower the score, the better.

According to IDC Canada, there were more smartphones shipped to consumers and in the “installed base” than ever before in 2011 – a trend unlikely to slow anytime soon.

Fake Instagram app scamming Android users

Security experts are warning Android users to be cautious after fake a Instagram app began spreading to unsuspecting users.

Instagram, the incredibly popular photo sharing app that was previously only available for iPhone, launched for Android just a few weeks ago.

But it’s a double-edged sword. Instagram hit a million downloads for Android in just 24 hours. In less than a week, it had five million downloads. But look out -  scammers are capitalizing on the Android market success.

Technology. Is there anything it can't do? Apparently not. Porn and prostitution objectifies people, say critics - but what if the prostitutes were objects already? A new paper, published by academics in New Zealand, predict just this scenario in 2050. Instead of paying human beings for a bit of the other, it suggests that clients might well pay for a bit of robotic nookie instead.

Review: Olympus captures it right with the OM-D
