New iPad could eat through your data plan: report

Apple’s latest tablet computer won’t just take a chunk out of your wallet when it comes time to buy it – it might also gobble up a good portion of your data plan.

Because the iPad features a “resolutionary” new super-sharp screen, it may likely need higher-resolution image files. What looked fine on the previous iPad2’s screen won’t suffice on the new device’s display.

So it’s quite possible that everything from videos to magazines will be packed in bigger files – which could eat up more of your monthly data.

According to Reuters, however, using one of the LTE-connected new iPads (as opposed to one that’s Wi-Fi only) could put customers in for a surprise.

Cellular data is billed based on the amount you use. Surf a lot on your tablet – you’ll pay for it.

One analyst told the news agency that data plans offered by two U.S. carriers are “ill-matched” for using the new LTE iPad. Plans from Canadian carriers aren’t all that much different.

If you don’t need to have connectivity all the time with your tablet, opt for the Wi-Fi only model. You’ll also save a bit of cash up front.

Would you want your tablet to be connected to a cellular network?
