NHL ’12 game now has female players
For years users have been able to customize the players on popular sports video games. But it was only possible to customize the virtual players as male characters, not as women.
That has now changed, however, thanks to the efforts of a young girl.
Despite the high popularity of hockey with girls and women, the virtual players in EA’s popular hockey game were male-only, much like the NHL right now. But that’s unlike the popularity of the sport.
This upset Peters; after all, her brother could customize a virtual player in the game to look like himself. The closest she could get a male player to look like her was with long ‘hockey hair.’
The response Lexi received at first wasn’t the promising – EA deflected, saying they would need permission from the NHL to add a female roster player.
But the Globe reports that one of the lead game producers at EA got wind of the letter – and he decided to change things.
After running things by the NHL and Electronic Arts’ legal departments, Lexi was in for a surprise.
Not only can users customize a virtual female player, but the ‘default’ player is designed after Lexi Peters.
Will this make you more interested in buying NHL ’12?
