'Simpsons' game makes its debut on iPhone

Simpsons-iphone-blog Everyone's favourite four-fingered, yellow family will soon be playable on the Apple iPhone and iPod touch in The Simpsons Arcade, a pocket-sized throwback to Konami's beat-em-up arcade game from '91.

As Homer, you'll punch, kick, butt slam and jump through Springfield in order to find a doughnut embedded with malevolent plans before Mr. Burns could reach it. How could fried dough ("doh!") with sprinkles be so evil?

The classic side-scroller will take players through familiar locations spread out between more than 25 levels -- such as the Channel 6 newsroom, downtown Springfield and Krusty Land -- while running into beloved characters from the hit animated television show, including Chief Wiggum, Krusty, the Rich Texan and Bumblebee Man.

In fact, the game features the same character voices, sound effects and music from the television series (or you can play your own music), plus it was written and animated by the same teams, too.

If you need some help throughout this tasty mission, you can earn and activate "Family Frenzy" power-ups, which enlists the rest of Homer's family -- Bart, Lisa, Maggie and Marge -- each with their own unique moves.

Players will use the multi-touch screen and accelerometer to "Slap Homer" back to life, toss objects at baddies and engage in an "Inflato-Head" balloon contest.

No price or launch date has been announced just yet, but Electronic Arts says it'll be available on the Apple App Store (part of iTunes) "very soon" and affordably priced, too.
