Hands on with the world's smallest PC
This Windows XP-powered machine features a 4.8-inch touchscreen display, full QWERTY keyboard and integrated Wi-Fi for you to chat with friends and family via the built-in webcam.
From Dynamism, the UMID (US $449; dynamism.com) is truly small enough to slip into your back pocket (er, just don't sit down) or clutch purse, and offers about five hours of battery life between charges. This conversation piece is ideal for running out to a coffee shop to pick up email, surf the web, access Facebook or Twitter, post blog entries or edit office documents. A smaller keyboard, however, means you're likely going to "hunt and peck" to type words rather than lay down all ten fingers comfortably on the keys at the same time.
Also, while this Intel Atom-based PC doesn't have an optical drive to play DVDs or burn CDs, it does have a USB port to connect all of your devices, such as an external hard or disc drive, mouse, smartphone, digital camera or iPod.
More information on the UMID, such as specs and availability, is at Dynamism.com.

This may be the smallest windows based "Pc" but its not the smallest computer. The Pandora handheld www.openpandora.org is 140mm x 83mm and runs a full version of Linux, the UMID is 161mm x 96.5mm.

Most important question.... can it run linux? This would be a hackers greatest weapon for Warwalking when used in conjunction with PHLAK (Professional Hackers Linux Assult Kit) and a sniffer.
I want one!

@bill...
look up, try the pandora, maybe...
also...you are basically admitting to being a hacker, friend...maybe ya shouldn't?

When you buy a PC and install Linux over Windows, in no way is that "hacking". You are not violating a EULA or any other law. As long as you don't violate copyright, and other stuff like that, you are fine. It's your PC, do what you want with it.

C'mon people...seriously? As it is, everyone is walking around with their phones in their faces. They communicate everything through texts or some kind of instant messaging.....what happened to a phone call....or a face to face visit? I realize times have changed....but is this where we want our future to be? NOW....a tiny computer with web cam for on the go too!?!?! There will be no idle chit chat when you are standing in line for an event, or waiting for a bus or flight. What happened to the art of conversation? Don't get me wrong, I rely on my cell phone for emails and texts as well. It is a very efficient way of communicating for those certain time. But for the younger generation it is their main source of communication. I just think that another handheld device will only make things worse. Unless of course the future is reliant on people who don't know how to express themselves verbally, face to face.

I don't think this pc will be attract a very big market, at least not for long, I have a netbook and only use it when my other laptop is in use or left at the office. The screens are way too small. They will be a novelty item that will fade quickly. If you have to connect them to a larger monitor to view, then why not just use a larger computer

I totally agree with you Dani.

I thing this is amazing, especially while in travel. I agree it won't attract a huge market but people who can afford to buy more than one, they will definitely go for it. Good marketing can make this a new fashionable trend.

This is wonderful. I love small portable devices.
