Canadian-invented remote control offers touch of class
You've likely invested heavily in your home theatre -- widescreen HDTV, audio-video receiver and speaker system, perhaps -- so why not control it all with ease by picking up a clever universal remote?
Consider replacing your cluttered coffee table with the Canadian-invented Harmony 1100 Advanced Universal Remote from Logitech ($499.99; logitech.com).
This high-end remote controls up to 15 components (such as a television, Blu-ray Disc player, HD satellite/cable box and personal video recorder), using your fingertip on the 3.5-inch colour touchscreen. The Harmony 1100 also has integrated sensors that turn on the remote when it's lifted off its charging base.
In case you haven't yet used a Harmony remote, they're unique in two key respects. First, they're programmed by downloading codes from the Internet when connected to a PC or Mac via a USB cable (included). Simply type in the model numbers for all your components, unplug and go. Oh, and don't worry about compatibility issues as this remote supports more than 225,000 devices (and counting).
Secondly, using the remote is easy, too. Press one of the many one-touch activity-based commands -- such as "Play a Blu-ray Disc," "Watch TV" or "Listen to Music" -- and the remote does the rest. You can also create your own commands, such as "Play DVD on Xbox 360" or whatever you like.
Finally, you can also control devices in another room (or in a closed cabinet) as this remote also supports the optional Logitech Harmony RF (radio-frequency) extender.
